Top 6 Creative Design Trends in 2022 - 90s Nostalgia Calling
Everything makes a comeback eventually…This is a known fact in fashion. We have been seeing an appearance of anti-design and it reminds us of the 90s. The 90s were a melting pot of different trends. Photoshop 1.0 for Mac was created during that time and with that 90s designs had a huge impact on not just the decade, but also the graphic design trends that are re-emerging.
A lot of 90s trends have made a comeback within the past 3 to 5 years including some big brands and designers referring back to the nostalgia idea in marketing and product design. Again, some corporate brands have been visiting 90s pop culture touches in the advertising and experimenting with the 90s nostalgic style to appeal to both millennials and Gen Z. Somehow, Gen Z likes the 90s designs, music, and style in general so, brands that choose to revisit the idea definitely do not get left out of the game.
The one significant factor of the 90s was the use of ‘Memphis design’ patterns. For those, who don’t know what Memphis design includes, here is a quick description. It’s an 80s design pattern that is characterized by scattered, brightly colored shapes and lines. It usually has circles and triangles combined with black and white graphic patterns such as polka dots.
Besides the Memphis design, we can also include emojis, a primitive internet look, color blocking with bright colors, and pixelated art elements. I’m sure these all feel very familiar to you because if you were born in the 80s or 90s, you probably experienced it all.
At last, 90s nostalgia definitely made its way into graphic design in 2022 with elegant serif fonts, and muted colors for a sophisticated but cool maturity look and feel.
